What is an "Orphan" RV?
It is a slang refering to a recreation vehicle that the manufacturing company is no longer in business as the original company. Some examples of this are Alpha products, Weekend Warrior just to mention a couple and there are many more unfortunately.
If another manufacturer assumes or buys the brand name down the road it does not mean that company assumes the warranty liability.
What are more of the draw-backs owning an "Orphan" product?
*New RV "Orphans" have no original warranty.
*Obviously OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts like fender skirts and other items specially for the manufacturer at the time the unit was built are not available.
*Values to base units have taken a big hit with "orphans".
*Loans values are decreased with these products around 25%.
*Extended warranties generally are not available even when they are new and untitled.
Somehow information like this does not give most people the same warm and fuzzy feeling that you should get when you adopt an "orphan".
Do your homework before you buy. Sometimes in life we get what we want but don't want what we got!
